Edwin Matuszko grew up on Twin Oaks Farm in Hadley, MA and met his wife, Linda Kingsley, in a field of cucumbers where she was working for a summer job. After getting married in 1979, Edwin and Linda leased six acres of the Matuszko family's land to grow cucumbers and decided to purchase the whole farm fifteen years later. Edwin explains how he and his wife named the farm, "We have a series of oak trees around the farm and they're planted in pairs. I don't know why, but there's two here, two there. My grandfather always wanted the name."
Edwin and Linda were among the founding farmers of the Pioneer Valley Growers Association (PVGA) and are proud to be part of such a supportive farming community. The cooperative serves as a distribution center for local farmers, complete with cooling facilities, loading docks, and billing offices to assist in marketing to wholesale buyers.
Josef Matuszko, Edwin's son and fourth generation farmer, is happy to join his parents and continue growing good quality food in rich Pioneer Valley soil. Edwin, Linda, and Josef grow summer squash, zucchini, cabbage, winter squash, leeks, and peppers as their main crops.
