Sequatchie Cove Farm is a diversified family farm of 300 acres nestled in the shadows of the Cumberland Plateau. Four generations of regenerative farming practices have gone into raising their organically fed and pasture raised chickens.
Sequatchie Cove farm aims to be a model of excellence. They go above and beyond on animal welfare and environmental sustainability to raise their chickens and produce the best quality eggs around.
The farm alternates between raising chickens and cultivating heirloom corn, which they mill into grits. Using electric fences, they move the flock every 3-5 days to provide fresh forage. Other “pasture-raised” hens have a door and the option to go outside but aren’t moved to new pastures regularly. Rotating the chickens and corn not only diversifies their income but also enriches the soil through crop rotation.
Farmer Kelsey Keener feels his mission in life is to grow the farm’s business, take care of the land, and demonstrate that profitable farming can coexist with stewardship.
Kelsey says, "the more I’ve learned, the more I’ve learned there is to learn," highlighting his philosophy of constant improvement. They have implemented an egg washing system and a grading table to ensure that their eggs meet their high standards. Sequatchie Cove Farm chooses technologies that align with their natural farming model, enhancing efficiency without compromising on sustainability and animal welfare.
They also seek to educate about sustainable farming practices, offer good rural jobs, and share their business model with others.
