In the quiet beauty of Tennessee’s Sequatchie Valley, an artist and a horticulturalist turned their shared curiosity into a way of life. Since 2010, Nathan and Padgett Arnold have been crafting handcrafted cheeses that reflect the spirit and landscape of their Tennessee home. What began with a few heritage cows and a lot of determination has grown into one of the South’s most celebrated artisan creameries. Sequatchie Cove Creamery’s cheeses have earned multiple national honors, including eight American Cheese Society awards recognizing excellence in flavor, craftsmanship, and regional expression.
Sequatchie Cove Creamery brings together traditional cheesemaking and the unique character of the Cumberland Plateau. Each wheel is an expression of the valley’s climate, soil, and grasses, transformed through time-honored techniques and a deep respect for natural processes. The result is cheese that tells a story of its origin—layered, living, and distinctly regional.
The creamery’s signature collection showcases this range: Cumberland, a rustic natural-rind Tomme with subtle sweetness; Walden, a silky, sweet cream paste with a delicate rind; Shakerag, a salty-sweet bleu cheese wrapped in fig leaves soaked in Chattanooga whiskey; and Coppinger, a semi-firm, washed ring cheese with an ash layer.
Rooted in community and craft, Sequatchie Cove Creamery continues to honor the valley that inspires it—turning milk, patience, and artistry into something that connects people to the land.
