From its ranching days in the 1800s to being the world’s largest pineapple plantation, Lāna‘i is no stranger to agriculture. Sensei Farms operates a 2-acre farm consisting of six greenhouses on Lāna‘i where tey grow an assortment of leafy greens and mini tomatoes. Their solar-powered greenhouses have the capacity to grow over half a million pounds of food a year. They choose to grow in greenhouses because in today's unpredictable environment, growing indoors gives their plants the best chance of success and produces the greatest yield with the smallest footprint. Sensei Farms can deliver the ideal amount of nutrients to each plant, control the climate within each greenhouse, and even recycle their water.
