Parma Sausage Products is a small family business, with a history that has influenced every aspect of their product line.
In the early 1930's, on the island of Corsica, Italy, Alessio Spinabelli worked as a shoe cobbler. As an acknowledgement of his talents, he was invited to a dinner at the Mayor’s house with the town elite. Being from Parma, which is known for its mastery of dry-curing meats, Alessio was not impressed with the antipasto, but promised the dinner attendees that he would make some real salami and prosciutto to share. The following spring when the products were ready, the elite tried them and proclaimed he must open his own Salumificio. And so, the Spinabelli tradition of making fine Italian specialty meats was born.
During World War II, Alessio and his family fled Corsica and arrived in Pittsburgh in 1949. They settled in the Strip District, working 2-3 jobs and making sausage products at night for various restaurants. Together, they created Parma Sausage Products in 1954.
Each generation has taken an interest in the family company, and the techniques, values and family recipes are shared from one generation to the next. Parma Sausage Products continues to make products as Alessio did in Corsica, with great pride knowing the taste test is still the most important way to keep people happy.
