Long Plain Farm is a third-generation family-owned and operated farm located in the rich Pioneer Valley in South Deerfield, MA.
Brothers Joe and Walter Hutkoski founded the farm in 1920 when they decided to make their living from the land. In 1994, grandson Scott Hutkoski decided to try his hand at farming to fill his down time while working as a part-time police officer.
After finding great satisfaction with the farming lifestyle, Scott decided to run the farm full-time with his brother Wayne.
Together the brothers grow a vast array of crops including sweet corn, onions, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant, pumpkins, squash, watermelon, tobacco, and various other vegetables on 250 acres of land.
The Hutkoski family is of Polish decent (Scott's great grandfather emigrated from Poland), as is much of the Pioneer Valley population. Reminiscent of the Polish flag, a huge swallowtail is painted over Long Plain Farm's barn to show visitors the family's pride in their native country.
