L.G. Herndon, Jr. Farms is a family-owned business founded in 1978 by Bo Herndon. He started with five acres of land. Since then, Bo and his nephew Jason Herndon have grown the farm to 5,000 acres, collaborating with farms in North Carolina and Florida to extend seasonality.
There have been ups and downs, but their passion for farming keeps them going. As Jason says, “The sun will come up tomorrow if you just wait on it.” Today, the farm cultivates a variety of crops, including collards, kale, turnips, watermelons, corn, mustard greens, and Vidalia onions.
In 2016, they opened their SuperFit Greens facility to process and package their products. The COVID-19 pandemic solidified SuperFit Greens as a crucial part of their business, as people turned to freshly cut greens for home cooking.
Jason Herndon, who grew up riding tractors with his family, always knew he wanted to work in agriculture. His favorite crop is corn, and he finds satisfaction in successfully planting, growing, and harvesting it each year. Jason's daughter Madison recently returned to the family business after graduating college and working in Savannah. For the L.G. Herndon team, farming is more than just a job, it's an investment in their family's future and their customers' well-being.
