Joe Czajkowski recalls his grandfather's anguish of working for a boss: "He didn't enjoy working in the factories in Holyoke, so he came up here, married my grandmother, and started farming." In 1916, John Czajkowski started a family tradition that's lasted four generations with the foundation of J. Czajkowski Farm.
Today, Joe Czajkowski farms more than 400 acres of land in Hadley, MA. Half of the acreage is USDA certified organic, while the rest of Joe's products are grown more conventionally. Yet everything is grown with integrated pest management (IPM) techniques for a succinct pest control strategy. Joe also provides processed and value-added products such as peeled and diced carrots and squash.
Despite the success of the farm, 52 year-old Joe is humble and is always amazed by plants―"I'm out in a field of carrots and it's beautiful. No matter how many times you see things grow, each time it's amazing. It's a miracle." After working with FreshPoint for 15 years, Joe says, "FreshPoint does it right. They're great to farmers, clean, and on time."
