Founded by Ron Craig and his wife Debbie, Holly Grove Farms is one of only a handful of woman-owned, family-run goat farms in the United States. After her husband passed away in 2009, Debbie’s family has helped her continue the farm’s legacy. Her 4 children and 9 grandchildren all pitch in with caring for the goats, breeding, milking and cheese making.
Holly Grove Farms has about 1,000 dairy goats, each with a distinctive personality. The mature goats are milked twice a day – at 6am and 4:30pm. Each goat produces a 3/4 gallon of milk a day, which makes about one pound of cheese. When the goats aren’t being milked, they graze around the farm.
As a farmstead, Holly Grove understands the loss in quality that comes from travel and using purchased milk. Fresh milk is pumped from one room to the next rather than loaded on trucks, and they use only the milk from their own herd of goats. This maintains the Holly Grove commitment to great tasting cheese.
