HENOSIS was founded in 2013 in Nashville, TN, with a vision to cultivate specialty mushrooms using sustainable, regenerative practices. Their slogan, "A better world from the ground up," reflects their commitment to a closed-loop production model that minimizes waste and generates valuable byproducts like nutrient-rich compost. After cultivating mushrooms, the spent substrate is transformed into compost sold back to local farmers, enriching the soil and promoting sustainability. HENOSIS is working towards building a better world from the ground up—starting with the soil that sustains us all.
The farm currently operates within a 1,600-square-foot indoor production space, where they focus on maximizing output and sustainability. They produce specialty mushrooms, including Shiitake, Oyster, Lion's Mane, Chestnut, Maiitake, Black Pearl, Reishi, and Cordyceps as well as value-added products like extracts and jerky.
Their farm uses automated climate control systems to maintain optimal conditions for mushroom growth. Additionally, they use data analytics to optimize production efficiency, ensuring they minimize waste and maximize yield.
Founder and President David Wells chose to grow mushrooms because of their versatility, nutritional value, and sustainability benefits. Mushrooms can be cultivated in controlled environments using minimal resources, fitting well into a closed-loop production model, where they use byproducts like sawdust and agricultural waste to create nutrient-rich substrates. This approach reduces waste and promotes environmental stewardship.
