Gerber Poultry started in 1952 when Dwight and Melva Gerber began processing chickens that were grown on their family farm. They delivered these fresh chickens to customers' homes in their local community. This humble beginning has evolved into a growing family business that now has modern processes. Fresh, clean chicken that has a natural great taste has always been the standard for the Gerber family, as proven by Dwight’s first motto “Quality worth crowing about! ™
Their one and only processing plant where they process their chickens is around 180,000 square feet. Their friends and contracted partners in the Amish community grow the chickens for them in both modern and traditional Amish growing houses, with about 180-200 grower houses and around 150 families that help care for the chickens.
The second and third generations of the Gerber family continue to believe that customers still want the highest quality and best-tasting chicken products available. They’re told over and over that Gerber’s Amish Farm Chicken® “tastes like the chicken they had growing up.” They taste better because the family has taken the time to perfect the feeding formula and the way they raise their chickens. Corn and soybeans are used to make the specialized, antibiotic free vegetable-based all-natural feed. The Gerber family is very proud of the quality reputation their chicken has earned over the years.
