Maria Romero had been working in the agriculture industry when her daughter started having health issues that were linked to the foods they were eating. Maria wanted to better support her daughter, so in 2014 so she started Ambrosio Organic Farms with 3 acres. Her mission was personal, but she also wanted to make a difference in the world by helping children and families like her own.
As a beginning farmer, Maria’s customers were very interested in heirloom tomatoes. That was the first crop she began to grow and she still grows them today. As her customer base grew, so did requests for more crop varieties. She added fava beans, lima beans, cherries, red and green cabbage, roma tomatoes and more.
Maria’s farming methods are still fairly traditional. All of the crops are planted and harvested by hand and grown organically. Orders are delivered by either Maria or her husband. The farm has grown to be 25 acres, and Maria hopes to continue expanding and adding new planting technologies to make planting faster and more efficient. Maria is a firm believer that what is meant for her will always find her, so she is optimistic for the future of the farm and the wellbeing of her family.
