Since 1820, the Smith family has been farming on their land in Stoneville, North Carolina. Larry Smith, 4th generation, left the farm for college and the corporate world, but felt called to return to his home place and revive the farm. Larry now manages the farm work while his daughter, Audrey, oversees marketing and sales. The father-daughter collaboration has allowed the farm to become more modern while maintaining the value of stewardship their forefathers taught them.
The Smiths pride themselves on being smaller growers with great flexibility to meet customers’ needs. In 2016, when a crop of organic ghost peppers and Trinidad scorpion peppers outgrew customers’ orders, the Smiths created artisan hot products - honey crazy glaze, Snuffy's BBQ sauce, Jebus' Garlic & Ghost Pepper Sauce, and Ghost Pepper Salt. Customers enjoyed the products, so the Smiths intend to continue with hot peppers in addition to growing other certified organic specialty vegetables and berries.
