Reeves Family Farm is located north of Lake Lavon near Princeton Texas in Collin County. The farm has been operating for nine years now, beginning with eight acres of okra and growing a little every year. They harvest okra from June-October, squash May-July, cantaloupe July-August, onions in June, and beets in May-July. Okra is what keeps the farm going, picking everyday on average 5,000 pounds a day.
Reeves Family Farm uses as much organic practices as possible. One of the goals for the farm practice is shipping out product at least by the next day harvested. This allows the vegetables to still be fresh by the time it his tables.
A little history in the Princeton area: in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and some 90's there used to be thousands of acres of family farms in operation growing the same thing as Reeves Family Farm. Now there may be as few as 100-150 acres in this area growing these foods. Times have changed, but the Reeves family has decided to keep the plow in the ground! They are thankful for the local communities in their support of local farmers.
