In 2006, Kate Brun and her husband had a small glass enclosed patio their backyard. The patio was beginning to leak, so Kate decided to turn it into a greenhouse. She started growing microgreens because they fit well in the small space, and she sold them to local restaurants.
Two years later, Kate was planning to sell a small area of land. With the collapse of the housing market though, selling the land was no longer an option. Kate decided to turn this area into a small farm with a greenhouse to expand her microgreen production.
In 2010, Kate started Lucky Leaf Gardens and she’s already expanded her greenhouse once. She grows her micros in an organic soil-blend.
