Around 1939, Brack Deal and his newlywed wife Thelma Isabelle (Belle) Deal decided to invest in their future generations by planting the first trees of Deal Orchards. The steep, mountainous land had to be cleared using a mule and plow. Brack and Belle’s persistence led to 15 acres of successful orchard that is still being replanted and harvested today.
Today, Lindsay Deal manages his parents’ orchard with the help of his son Alan. They grow typical varieties as well as North Carolina heirloom varieties. The Deal family is proud to carry on Brack and Belle’s legacy and be great stewards of the orchard that was so lovingly passed down to them.
